Dread มักจะถูกตามหลังด้วย gerund หรือ คำคุณศัพท์ที่แสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ + gerund ข้อยกเว้นที่พบได้มากที่สุดที่จะใช้ infinitive ตามหลัง dread คือ ใช้คู่กับ think ในสำนวน I dread to think นอกจากนี้ ยังสามารถใช้คำนามตามหลัง Dread ได้อีกด้วย
