The Semicolon หรือเครื่องหมายอัฒภาค (;)

Semicolon หรือเครื่องหมายอัฒภาค (;) คือ สิ่งที่อยู่ระหว่าง period/ full stop กับ comma ในภาษาอังกฤษ semicolon หรือเครื่องหมายอัฒภาค (;) ใช้เพื่อเชื่อมวลีและประโยคที่มีความเชื่อมโยงกันโดยไม่ใช้คำเชื่อม (ตัวอย่างที่ 1) นอกจากนี้ ยังสามารถใช้แทนเครื่องหมาย comma เพื่อแยกคำนามต่าง ๆ ออกจากัน ในกรณีที่มีการใช้เครื่องหมาย comma อยู่ก่อนแล้ว (ตัวอย่างที่ 2)

I like your brother; he's a good friend.
Many great leaders, Churchill, leader of Britain during the Second World War; Alexander, the great Emperor and general; and Napolean, the brilliant French general, had strong characters, which were useful when their countries were at war but which did not serve them well in times of peace.
