Passive infinitive
Passive infinitive จะถูกนำมาใช้ในประโยคที่ประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำ (passive voice) และจะอยู่หลังคำกริยา modal ที่พบได้บ่อย (เช่น may, should, could เป็นต้น) เพื่อบอกสิ่งที่เป็นไปได้หรือสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง รูปของ passive infinitive คือ
to be + กริยาช่อง 3 (past participle)
และเหมือนกับ present infinitive มีบางกรณีที่ infinitive แบบไม่ใช้ to จำเป็นต้องอยู่ในรูป perfect infinitive ดังนั้น ส่งผลให้ to ถูกละออกไป ซึ่งมักจะเกิดขึ้นเมื่อใช้ร่วมกับคำกริยาช่วย modal ส่วนใหญ่

- I am expecting to be given a pay-rise next month.
- She is hoping to be elected president.
- The carpet needs to be washed.
- These doors should be shut at night.
- This window may be opened but that one must stay closed.
- Alice could be given a prize for her artwork.
