คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ที่ใช้บอกระดับหรือปริมาณบอกให้เราทราบถึง ระดับหรือปริมาณ ของสิ่งต่าง ๆ โดยทั่วไปแล้วจะวางไว้ข้างหน้า คำคุณศัพท์ คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ หรือคำกริยาที่ต้องการขยาย แต่อย่างไรก็ดี ยังมีข้อยกเว้นบางประการด้วย ตัวอย่างของคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ที่ใช้บอกระดับหรือปริมาณ ได้แก่ "too", "enough", "very" และ "extremely" เป็นต้น

การกลับประโยคด้วยการใช้คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ที่อยู่ในรูปปฏิเสธ

รูปประโยคปกติทั่วไป ประธานจะมาก่อนคำกริยา แต่อย่างไรก็ดี สำหรับคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ที่อยู่ในรูปปฏิเสธบางคำเมื่อถูกวางไว้ตอนต้นของอนุประโยค จะสามารถทำให้เกิดการกลับประโยค (inversion) ได้ ส่งผลให้เกิดการกลับลำดับคำในประโยค คือ คำกริยามาก่อนประธาน การกลับประโยคในลักษณะนี้จะใช้ในการเขียนเท่านั้น ไม่สามารถนำมาใช้เป็นภาษาพูดได้
